OK, you've decided that you want to watch your TV in comfort and have decided against sitting around in your own home with headphones on.
It could be a film or, maybe, you've hooked up a PlayStation 4 or XBox One to the set.
Whichever source you choose, there will be different demands on your speakers.
During our testing this year, we also introduced a greater variety of music tracks – including rock, pop, dub step and even classic-style tracks.
When considering our annual award for speakers, we wanted to keep the budget sensible. With our CPU and GPU articles being the most popular – and a lot of interest in SSD & big screen monitors – would anyone seriously want to spend £100-200 more on speakers, when that money could be invested in a significantly faster system?
If you want to take your speakers to the extreme, that's fine, but we kept our focus on affordability. Which brings us to the Wavemaster Stax 2.1 Speakers.
In our review back in May, we concluded that they offered “Solid amplification, great styling and decent reproduction across a range of music and games. Despite the relatively low cost, the desktop controls are neat – and include a convenient headphone socket”.
Side-by-side against old favourites like Creative Labs 2.1 speakers, these units offered a level of clarity that was a class above – especially given the street price of £59.
