KitGuru Annual Awards 2013

Many people in the KitGuru Team played guitar at some point in the past, so we're all familiar with the Michael J Fox feeling of cranking a huge amplifier to the max and unleashing a power chord that hits you right in the chest.

While we love heavy rock and heavy gaming, all of us find ourselves in situations where we need to balance the need for ear-bleeding volume with our friends, family and neighbours.

Enter headphones.

Alongside their ability to reduce your neighbour's desire to break down your door at 2am, they also need to deliver in the audio quality department – and this can involve some serious demands on flexibility.

In a huge Battlefield fire fight, you might find yourself in a combat situation with dozens of combatants. Meanwhile, Counter-Strike needs specialisation of the sounds you hear, in order to improve your team's chances of winning.

While you're watching a film or listing to music of playing in a marathon gaming session – hot/fatigued ears can be the undoing of many a headset.

Our winner was the product that best balanced all of these challenges – and it managed to do so for less than £80.

As with our choice of mouse, this product is slightly better suited for larger folks, but that's more and more of us every day.

KitGuru's choice for Headphone of the Year 2013 is the Corsair Vengeance 1500 V2.
