Obsidian's latest game, Avowed, has finally launched to positive reception, but the game we ended up with is far from what the studio had originally envisioned. In the early days of Avowed, it was supposed to feature a much larger Skyrim-style world, with multiplayer being the hook.

2025 is a busy year for Obsidian Entertainment, with the Microsoft-owned studio having just released their fantasy RPG Avowed – and The Outer Worlds 2 coming up later this year. Despite having quite a lot on their plate, the creative director for Avowed is hoping to support the series for years to come with expansions or even a sequel.

The Pillars of Eternity series was incredibly well received but due to the top-down, CRPG nature of the game, it wasn't as widely accessible to the gaming masses. Obsidian is opening up the world of Eora to a new audience today with the launch of Avowed, which has released to a very positive reception on Steam. 

Microsoft has now announced its Xbox Game Pass line-up for the second half of February – including a bunch of notable departees.

There are several key launches happening this week, many of which are sporting the latest DLSS 4 technology with Multi Frame-Gen. As a result, there is a new Game Ready driver available today with day-one support for Avowed, as well as updates for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. 

Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed will be the first Xbox game to offer cross-buy with PC – but only through the Battle net launcher.

While details on its performance have been somewhat mixed, the team at Obsidian have now confirmed that Avowed will offer a 60fps mode on Series X at launch.

February is set to be a big month for Game Pass. We already know that Obsidian's new fantasy RPG, Avowed, will be a day-one title for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Now, we know the full list of games joining the service over the next two weeks. 

Obsidian has an extremely busy year ahead with Avowed due to launch this month, followed by The Outer Worlds 2 later this year. In the middle of this, Obsidian is also preparing for its next major game, and it has brought back the lead writer behind Fallout New Vegas to work on it. 

While Microsoft's Avowed was previously stated to target 30fps on the Series X, the team at Obsidian have clarified that the framerate is not yet set in stone.

You can play Avowed early, but you'll need to be willing to shell out £90, with not much else to gain from the Premium Edition beyond a few skins.

The PC system requirements for Avowed have been revealed via the game's Steam page. An RTX 3080 is recommended, causing some optimisation concerns.

Despite not being an Activision Blizzard title, Avowed will launch on the publisher’s platform ‘Battle.net’ alongside Steam and the Windows/Xbox store.

Xbox has offered gamers some more time to clear their backlogs heading into the final months of 2024 by delaying the release of Avowed until early 2025. The highly anticipated action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment is now slated for release on February 18th, 2025.
