Intel CEO says Panther Lake will double AI performance

During Intel's Q4 2023 earnings call, CEO, Pat Gelsinger, revealed that the upcoming Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake products are expected to provide an impressive threefold boost in AI acceleration compared to Meteor Lake, the first AI-enabled product in Intel's “Core Ultra” range. However, Intel plans to go even further with Panther Lake, hoping to bring an additional 2x boost in AI performance over Arrow/Lunar Lake.

Meteor Lake was launched in December and has gradually made its way into various devices. It is worth noting that this was Intel's first consumer device to feature a dedicated AI processor (NPU). With the upcoming release of Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake Core Ultra products later this year, users can expect a significant increase in AI performance, according to Pat Gelsinger (via Seeking Alpha).

However, Intel's CEO has already revealed that the next generation, dubbed Panther Lake, is expected to deliver double the performance of these upcoming devices. If this is achieved, it would result in a sixfold boost in AI performance over the first release, Meteor Lake.

Intel unveiled the Panther Lake CPU architecture last September, making it the first consumer product based on the Intel 18A node. Set to launch sometime in 2025, Panther Lake will come after Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake, both scheduled to launch this year. The exact launch dates for each product may differ depending on the form factor, with the PC version of Arrow Lake planned for later this year and the mobile variation expected early next year. There have also been rumours of a future Arrow Lake update, with the core count expected to triple. However, given Panther Lake's arrival in 2025, there may be a limited time for such a product.
