Intel Raptor Lake mobile chips may become available by the end of the year

It seems the 13th Gen Core mobile chips will come out sooner than we thought. During an earnings call this week, the company confirmed plans to launch Raptor Lake for both mobile and desktop platforms this year, although desktop parts will still arrive first.

During Intel's Q2 earnings call, CEO, Pat Gelsinger, confirmed that Raptor Lake processors will launch for desktops during the autumn season, with laptop processors arriving sometime between then and the end of the year. Whether Intel means it will ship laptop CPUs to OEMs, or if Raptor Lake laptops will be available before the end of 2022 still remains to be seen.

Typically Intel launches new-generation mobile processors a year apart, but with Raptor Lake launching early, it means the 12th Gen Core mobile processors will have had a shorter lifespan, although 12th Gen powered laptops will likely continue to be sold alongside newer 13th Gen models.

Intel is expected to share more about its upcoming Raptor Lake processors at its upcoming ‘Innovation’ event in late September.

KitGuru says: If Intel’s 13th Gen mobile processors do launch this year, it won’t be long before renewed competition arrives, as AMD is expected to launch a new generation of Ryzen mobile processors at CES in early 2023.
