AMD Ryzen 5 7640U matches the Ryzen 7 6800H in Geekbench

AMD Ryzen 7000 series mobile chips have already appeared in various benchmark databases, but up to this point, none were of a Ryzen 7x40U SKU. That has now changed after spotting the first benchmark result of the Ryzen 5 7640U.

The Geekbench entry shared by Wccftech is listed as “AMD Mayan-PHX”, suggesting this is some kind of test/engineering platform from AMD itself. The system was running Windows 11 Pro with the balanced power plan and was packing 16GB of memory.

The system information gives us some insights about the 6C/12T processor, which is shown as featuring a Radeon 760M iGPU. The CPU's base frequency is 3.5GHz, but the benchmark registered a maximum frequency of 4.9GHz. In the single-core benchmark, the CPU scored 1,869 points. In the multi-core test, it got 8,853 points.

As per the scores achieved by the system, the upcoming CPU is superior to its predecessor, the Ryzen 5 6600U, by about 25%. In fact, it scores very similarly to the 8C/16T Ryzen 7 6800H, which has two more cores, four extra threads, and a higher TDP. Despite that, the 8-core CPU has a lower boost clock speed of 4.7GHz.

KitGuru says: The scores look quite impressive for a Ryzen 7000U chip. Whether these results are an exception or a good representation of what this chip will be capable of still remains to be seen.
