In terms of functionality the ASUS RP-AC52 has more to offer than an average range extender. The music streaming service will be a bonus for some users, although a dedicated music streaming platform such as one from SONOS will offer much better functionality.
The access-point mode is especially useful considering the compact form of the RP-AC52 – making it ideal for those looking to create a wireless hotspot while traveling.
We recorded decent throughput in our tests, with the Range Extender offering solid performance where the wireless signal from the main router couldn't even be detected. You will want to make sure you configure closer devices to use the main router though as it offers better performance over shorter distances.
At a price of around £60 from Dabs, the Asus RP-AC52 is quite pricey, as there are a number of Wireless-N models on the market for around half the price. For most users these will suffice, however the RP-AC52 is perfect for those who want the added performance of a dual band configuration.
