But this is a router review, not a wireless dongle review, and you probably came here to see how fast ASRock’s Gaming G10 Router could go. It’s mostly good results here, with the exception of middling 802.11n 2.4GHz performance.
As with all routers we review, the G10 was tested using our standard equipment, at our three distances – 1m, 5m and 10m, using a MacBook Pro as a wireless client, capable of 3×3 802.11ac, and a desktop iMac connected via Ethernet cable, using the software WiFi Perf.
The 802.11ac results here are very good. While a few routers in this same test environment have managed speeds close to 700Mb/sec, the ASRock G10 still does fine, with approximately 600Mb/sec at close range, and around 275-300Mb/sec at long range.
But the 5GHz 802.11n speeds are some of the better results we’ve seen, with a solid 300Mb/sec connection even at 5m distance.
The 802.11n 2.4GHz results do seem to fluctuate slightly. This is the slowest of the three standards we tested anyway, and 802.11ac performance is what matters more these days.
We also tested the USB 3 ports on the router using a USB 3 hard disk to remove any bottlenecks, with the Mac app BlackMagic Disk Speed Test. It recorded averages around 39MB/sec read and 22MB/sec write over a wired connection, which matches some of the best speeds on other routers.
