ASUS Blue Cave AC2600 WiFi Router Review

The box styling foregrounds the design of the router rather than technical details of the ASUS Blue Cave.

Inside the packaging is the usual selection of UK and European socket adapters, power supply, and single Ethernet cable for hooking the router up to your broadband.

The Blue Cave is mildly reminiscent of a fat Dyson fan. You may or may not like the silver ASUS logo on the front, which we feel goes slightly against the intention to get away from standard IT product design.

However, the lack of obvious status LEDs on the front keeps the look uncluttered, although one LED does come on during startup. The central blue orifice pulses blue until setup is complete, and then stays solidly blue.

The rear is much more businesslike, with myriad holes presumably to aid cooling. Along the bottom, next to the power cable is the power button, with a recessed reset button the other side. Next is the USB 3.0 port, followed by the four-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, then the fifth Gigabit Ethernet port for broadband, and finally the WPS button.

There's not much else to say about the Blue Cave from a physical perspective. Let's find out if the software features reveal hidden powers beneath the stylish exterior.
