Xbox’s 20th anniversary controller leaks online

2021 marks a special year for Xbox as it is the 20th anniversary of the release of Microsoft’s first console. Ahead of its birthday on the 15th of November, a special edition 20th anniversary Xbox controller has leaked online, showcasing a polarising design.

As reported by VGC, the US-based retailer Best Buy accidentally revealed this controller in all its glory – ruining Microsoft’s strategy of slowly unveiling the peripheral. The description for the controller reads as follows: “Inspired by the styles and innovations of the past, this 20th Anniversary Special Edition Xbox wireless controller brings you the best of the last 20 years.”

The controller itself “features a transparent black design with vibrant green details that stay true to Xbox’s signature style while thoughtfully designed buttons and a hybrid D-pad enable precision, tactical gameplay.”

The controller certainly has a striking design, and one that may not be for everyone. There is no denying however that it is quintessentially Xbox, and calls back to the very first console released by the company in 2001.

With Best Buy revealing the controller, it will be interesting to see whether Microsoft gives up on its slow rollout of the announcement, or if they will continue as planned. Either way, it will be interesting to see higher quality renders which are undoubtedly set to be released with the official announcement (which will likely take place on or before the anniversary on the 15th of November).

KitGuru says: What do you think of the design? Do you like translucent technology? Will you pick this up? Let us know down below.
