Sony announces Project Q handheld alongside wireless gaming earbuds

Ahead of the PlayStation Showcase, we heard talks of a WIFI-focused handheld being in development at Sony. Known internally as Project Q, PlayStation has now officially announced the handheld – alongside the surprise reveal of gaming-focused wireless earbuds.

Announced as Project Q, the Remote Play enabled device looks very much like what would happen if you sawed a DualSense controller in half and then stuck a big screen between it. Speaking of the screen, Project Q features a “vibrant 8-inch LCD screen capable of up to 1080p resolution at 60fps” with perhaps its biggest selling point being that the handheld features the DualSense’s haptics and adaptive triggers.

In a more surprising announcement, Sony unveiled its “first-ever official wireless earbuds”. No project name was given, but the buds are said to bring “next-generation audio immersion to PS5 as well as PC, along with connectivity to smartphones via Bluetooth”. With it being a gaming-focused peripheral Sony promises “new wireless technology developed by SIE” which will “deliver lossless audio with low latency for a high-quality audio experience.”

Both the earbuds and Project Q will launch sometime later this year, with more details set to be shared in the coming months.
