Sony announces Astro Bot themed DualSense controller

While Sony has often shied away from releasing custom video game controllers based on their IPs – especially during the current PS5 generation – the console manufacturer appears to be ramping up production on such niceties. Following the announcement of a Concord-themed controller, Sony has now revealed a cute thematically-linked DualSense based on the much-hyped upcoming 3D platformer ‘Astro Bot’.

Making the announcement via the PlayStation Blog, Nicolas Doucet – the Studio Head at Team Asobi – said “Today, it is an immense pleasure to announce that you will be able to charge into Astro’s new supersized adventure along with the cool new DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition. We know many of you were hoping for this after seeing the game trailer. So, we quickly asked our lovely bots to engineer this beauty and tada! No, no, I’m just kidding; it had been in the making for some time, carefully crafted by the amazing teams at SIE. And what splendid work they did.”

Just as the Astro Bot games feature bot-ified PS5 consoles and controllers, it makes perfect sense for Sony to make a real-life Astro Bot themed DualSense. Pre-orders for the controller will go live on the 9th of August at 10am UK Time for £69.99 – ever so slightly cheaper than the aforementioned Concord controller and £10 more expensive than a standard DualSense.

Despite first being introduced during the PS4 generation, Astro Bot’s design has always shared a great deal of DNA with that of the PS5 console/controller and so this in many ways feels like a full-circle moment.
