Cheaper Xbox Elite Series 2 Core announced

The Xbox Elite Series of controllers offer a premium option for all those who want to maximise their gaming potential. This comes at a heavy premium however, costing significantly more than a Standard Xbox controller (£159.99 to be exact). For those who want a slightly more premium experience while not needing every single bell and whistle, the console manufacturer has now announced its slightly cheaper Xbox Elite Series 2 Core wireless controller.

Costing £114.99, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Core is said to be “designed to meet the core needs of today’s competitive gamers, putting exceptional performance, customization, and durability where it matters most — in your hands.”

The Series 2 Core controller shares many of the same customisability at its more expensive sibling, including “adjustable-tension thumbsticks, wrap-around rubberized grip, and shorter hair trigger locks” as well as exclusive button mapping options in the Xbox Accessories app.

In essence, the Core edition of the controller is the exact same as the Elite without any of the extra accessories included, meaning you will not get the back paddles; charging dock; additional thumbsticks; additional D-pad nor the carrying case.

That being said, if you later decide you want to upgrade to the full feature set, the core is designed to support these extra accessories and can now be purchased separately as part of the Complete Component Pack for £54.99.

Previous generations of the Xbox Elite controller have suffered from quality control issues and as such, Microsoft is offering a 1-year limited warranty. Hopefully you will not need to use it however, as the manufacturer has claimed that they “have continued to improve Elite Series 2 controllers to be more reliable than ever before with refined components that are built to last.”

The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core can be preordered right now, with the accessory shipping from the 21st of September.
