8BitDo celebrates 11th birthday with all-metal ‘SN30 Pro’ controller

It's always been a bit of a trend for both 1st and 3rd party manufacturers to take an existing product and slather it in metal. Just last week the FPGA-powered Game Boy handheld Analogue Pocket was announced to be getting an all-metal edition. Now, controller manufacturer 8BitDo is doing the very same thing.

Making the announcement on their website, the 3rd-party controller manufacturer 8BitDo revealed that they will be creating a limited edition version of their popular SN30 Pro SNES-styled controllers.

Costing $99.99 and available in both electroplated silver / matte gold finishes, this all-zinc-alloy controller even goes so far as to make the thumbsticks themselves metal – with just the select/start buttons and cable being made out of anything other than metal..

The original SN30 Pro costs less than half the special edition’s asking price, going for $44.99 (or cheaper on sale). Even the previous special edition of the same controller cost just $49.99 – though it admittedly wasn’t made out of metal.

This limited edition metal SN30 Pro has been designed in celebration of the company’s 11th birthday – and so for some, the added weight and price might be worth it.
