To test the Gamdias HADES Extension laser mouse I put it through its paces in a number of different games and used it as my main work mouse for the past week. This involved general office usage as well as specific tasks like photo editing.
The Gamdias back-end software feels a little extravagant when you first open it
During my testing I tried the Gamdias HADES Extension out in a number of different games, including FPS and RTS titles, slow paced puzzlers fast paced shooters and more and it performed well in practically every way.
There is no doubt this is a fast mouse, with a high enough sensitivity (8200 when maxed out) that will satisfy even the twitchiest of gamers. Personally I found the sweet spot to be around 4,000-5,000, but everyone will have a different view on this.
Despite all that sensitivity, the Hades never feels inaccurate and does not overshoot when you are aiming for something specific. The DPI switcher can give you the extra accuracy you need, though it does come in a four step system – so unless you like having multiple steps, you will need to have a play to find the configuration that works for you.
It also has a lovely weight to it.
While some companies might offer a replaceable weight system, the HADES does away with that, coming pre-fitted with a weight in its base which you can not see or move. According to Gamdias, many hours were put into finding the perfect weight and location and it certainly feels that way.
The software offers a lot of options, including statistics to tell you how many times you have clicked.
Comfort wise the HADES does an excellent job too. It is not exactly how I would like it, but considering this is a mouse priced under £50, it does a damn good of supporting your hand throughout long periods of usage. Also, while a little clunky, I love the replaceable finger rests. This allowed me to customise the mouse to the streamlined, ambidextrous rodent I know it wants to be inside. Those who prefer a more supportive mouse will be able to have that. It is a great system.
Since it makes use of a laser sensor, the HADES Extension works perfectly on a desk top as well as a mat, so you need not invest in the latter if you do not have one already.
Lighting options cover the whole spectrum, but only for the scroll wheel. The rear logo is locked to a bright orange/yellow
