Everything considered, we are left with mixed feelings regarding the Gigabyte Force M9 ICE. We have to consider that it is closely priced to clearly superior mice, such as the SteelSeries Kinzu V2 Pro. Also, the build quality of the Force M9 ICE is a little questionable as some of the plastics feel flimsy and the matte finish could be improved.
The performance of the Force M9 ICE mouse is reasonably good, although it can feel a little clumsy due to the uneven weight distribution when the batteries are installed. The laser sensor tracked perfectly in our tests even when used on a glass surface so we are happy to say that Gigabyte's ICE technology works as advertised.
Gigabyte's software package is very basic but it works fine. We would prefer a full fat software package such as that supplied by SteelSeries, as there are more fine tuning options available. That said, this isn't really a requirement for a non-gaming mouse but it would be a worthwhile addition.
We would have also preferred to see Gigabyte using a rechargeable battery pack rather than relying on AA batteries as this can become expensive over the course of a year.
At £31 from AWD-IT, we feel that the Gigabyte Force M9 ICE faces stiff competition. If the price would drop to under £25 then we would be more inclined to recommend it, especially for those people who want to use the product on a glass desk.
Pros
- Works perfectly on glass surfaces.
- Wireless connectivity.
- Tiny USB receiver.
Cons
- Too expensive.
- Uneven weight distribution.
- Limited software.
- No rechargeable battery.
KitGuru says: An impressive mouse that works perfectly on a glass desk, but there are many high quality alternatives at this price point.
looks nicer than it is by the sounds of it. still good to see more competition. im actually in the market for a new mouse but am looking at the razer starcraft mouse.
Unless you’re going Spanish, the 1st page should read IntroducTion, with a T.
Otherwise, i didn’t read the article. I’m saving money for Corsair M90. :d
Hi, very nice review, could you tell me if the scroll wheel is continuous or intermittent so that it can it be efficiently used for changing weapons in FPS games? And if the mouse can function with only one battery? Thank you!
Hi vlad, the scroll wheel is intermittent so that there are defined notches in it’s action which makes it very easy to select weapons etc. accurately. I wouldn’t recommend it for FPS gaming specifically though as there are better featured gaming mice out there for the price. Yes it does function with only one battery in – I assume this would half the battery life though!
Thanks. I just bought one of these from MSY for $41. Pretty good price, considering ebay show them for $80ish
