Nvidia combines ULMB and VRR with new G-Sync Pulsar technology

It has been a while since we last had any major G-SYNC news but that changes today. At Gamescom, Nvidia has officially announced its new collaboration with MediaTek to usher in a new age of G-Sync Pulsar monitors.

G-SYNC Pulsar is the next evolution of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology. While G-Sync is already great at eliminating stutter, the big upgrade here is the addition of Variable Frequency Strobing, which boosts motion clarity to a high level. With upcoming G-Sync Pulsar 360Hz monitors, you should get motion clarity comparable to a 1000Hz display. This clip below demonstrates the effect:

In the past, users have often had to make the tough decision between Ultra Low Motion Blur for its motion clarity characteristics, or G-Sync for perfect frame management without stutter or tearing. With G-Sync Pulsar, you should get the best of both worlds.

The other big benefit from Nvidia's new partnership with MediaTek is that moving forward, G-Sync will be incorporated directly into MediaTek's widely used scalers, removing the need for monitor makers to include an additional G-Sync module.

The first G-Sync Pulsar monitors will hit the market later this year, including the ASUS ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQNR, the Acer Predator XB273U F5 and the AOC AGON PRO AG276QSG2. All three displays will boast 1440p resolution at up to 360Hz, as well as HDR. We'll be learning more about these displays at Gamescom, so stay tuned for more information.
