AUO reveals next-gen 5K/360Hz and 1080p/540Hz gaming displays

During the Touch Taiwan 2023 Display International Exhibition this month, AUO showcased two new high-end gaming panels – one flat and another curved. These two panels will most likely be featured in gaming monitors that will be released in the coming years.

The first gaming display panel showcased by AUO is the 49″ 5K 360Hz ultra-wide curved gaming display panel. With its ultra-wide 32:9 display, 5K resolution, 1000R curvature and 360Hz refresh rate, this display offers true next-gen specs for a new wave of high-end gaming monitors. The display's native VA contrast ratio of 5000:1 is considerably above that of an average VA display, making it even better for games with dark scenes.

AUO's second gaming display panel showcased at the exhibition has the world's highest refresh rate, displaying up to 540 images per second. This FullHD display panel is designed to meet the standards of professional esports players looking for monitors with high refresh rates, trying to have every bit of advantage they can. This panel supports dynamic refresh rate technologies that eliminate screen tearing, stuttering, and ghosting issues.

It's unclear when we'll see the first monitors using these panels. A release in 2023 may be too soon, but we may see the first prototypes from monitor makers at CES in 2024.

KitGuru says: Earlier this year, monitor manufacturers announced the first 500Hz monitors. Fast forward three months, and we're already breaking that wall with 540Hz monitors. At this pace, how long will it take to reach the four-digit refresh rate?
