Corsair K70 RAPIDFIRE RGB keyboard review

It is safe to say that I am a big fan of the Corsair K70 RAPIDFIRE, it truly is an excellent keyboard. Corsair has kept the familiar, brushed aluminium build of the original K70 RGB and added to it with a new USB passthrough and debuted Cherry's new MX Speed switches.

Once again, Corsair's RGB lighting is fantastic and while I have tested a ton of RGB keyboards at this point, Corsair still seems to have the best implementation and the most support, especially when it comes to third-party lighting profiles. If you head over to Corsair's ‘RGB Share' website, you will find a lot of awesome creations from fellow K70 owners across the world.

Corsair and Cherry have teamed up once again this year. The new Cherry MX Speed switch is certainly a step up from red switches in my opinion but its availability is limited to Corsair's RAPIDFIRE keyboards for the next six months thanks to a new exclusivity deal.

Gaming keyboards are a fairly expensive commodity at this point and the K70 RAPIDFIRE is no exception, launching with a price tag of £150 on Amazon UK. That is a lot of money to throw down for a keyboard so it won't be for everyone. However, if you are a bit of a keyboard nut and like to splurge on the best of the best, then the K70 RAPIDFIRE will serve you very well.

Pros:

  • Brushed aluminium frame.
  • USB Pass-through.
  • Cherry MX Speed switches.
  • RGB Lighting.

Cons:

  • Steep asking price.

KitGuru Says: The Corsair K70 RAPIDFIRE takes everything that made the K70 RGB so legendary and turns it up to 11. The new Cherry MX Speed switches feel great in use and the RGB lighting is still top of the range.

  1. My 2014 Corsair K70 Cherry Red has a USB pass through. It has a thick black braided cable ending in two red usb usb plugs. I use it all the time for backing up photos to a usb key. Its incredibly handy.

  3. I think these new switches are awesome but there are just two things that I *really* don’t like about the Rapidfire and that’s the textured Spacebar key and the very bold font on the key caps.
I much prefer the sleek look of the regular K70 RGB, so I’ll be getting one of those and will replace the Brown switches with Speed ones once they are sold separately.
    Thanks for the review!
