iKBC F87 & F108 Mechanical Keyboards Review

box1 box2

The iKBC F87 & F108 keyboards ship in pretty minimalistic boxes. No product photos are to be found, while the only dash of colour comes from a blue strip going along the front of the boxes.

On the back of the boxes some key features of each keyboard are mentioned, but that is it.

manual keys

Inside, there is pretty detailed user manual, as well as 8 replacement keys – 4 blue, 4 red. A keycap-puller is also included.

Getting our first look at the keyboards, they too are pretty understated devices. For this review I was sent the F108 in black, while the F87 is white. Of course, if you want to buy one you will have the choice of colour and switch type.

side-viewcable

I must say I like the simple design – it is clean yet oozes quality thanks to the sturdy frame and thick braided cable.

Incidentally, the USB cable is gold-plated but it is sadly not detachable. Having a detachable cable can be useful in all kinds of situations, so it is a shame not see that functionality here, especially given the relatively high pricing of the keyboards.

Taking a closer look, some number keys and F-keys feature a printed symbol on the front of the keycap (as pictured above). These symbols are designed to indicate what special function that key has when activated – something we look at in more detail on the next page.

Lastly, removing the keycaps we get a look at the Cherry MX switches below. My F108 sample shipped with Browns, while the F107 shipped with Blues. Blues are my personal favourite, but there is also the choice between Black and Red switches should you prefer those.
