Tt eSPORTS Shock One Gaming Headset Review

The headset itself mimics the same red and black colour scheme as the box.  Thermaltake have found a good balance between red and black in the design, using red accents here and there to infuse excitement into the design of the headset.

Thermaltake have chosen to use a combination of gloss and matte plastic in the design.  While this gives the headset an attractive appearance, the gloss plastic is likely to pick up scratches and marks easily so is unlikely to prove practical in the long run.  Build quality is good overall and the headset feels well put together.

For those who frequent LAN events, Thermaltake have integrated folding hinges into the Shock One which let you fold the headset up into a smaller form for travelling.  This will also help prevent damage during transit, especially when the included travel bag is used.

The integrated boom microphone is constructed from flexible plastic and extends from the left earcup.  Even though it can be folded up when not in use, we don't feel that this system is quite as good as some others we've seen from the likes of SteelSeries as the microphone still protrudes significantly from the headset.

Thermaltake have chosen to use a braided cable for the headset which feels much better quality than the plastic shielding used by other manufacturers.  About 50 cm down the cable we find the inline control which features volume control buttons, a mute button and a microphone mute button.  On the back of the inline control there is a clip so you can attach it to your shirt.

At the end of the cable we find a gold plated USB connector which plugs into your PC.  The cable is very long indeed so you can easily plug the headset into the back of your PC, should it not have  USB connector on the front.  Of course, USB connectivity means that you can't use this headset with an MP3 player or smartphone so you'll need a second headset for other devices.

  1. Very nice looking headset, good design.

  2. Are there any products these guys dont make now !?

  3. Its a tough market this, especially with microsoft and steelseries with so many headsets out

  4. The appearance is slightly more ‘classic’ than others I have seen. Good review. thanks

  5. Where is the weight wrong (heavy)? in the middle of the headband or the ear pieces themselves?

  6. Did I miss it, they’ve missed testing the mic quality in battle?

  7. My cousin Dan’s kid spent over £100 on some Razer headset thing and the wiring kept coming out from the ear piece. The shop he bought it from swapped it twice, but it must have hurt them. They told him it was normal. If these things don’t last that long anyway, then why spend money on them? Surely a normal phone-type headset would work and cost £15? Also, most of the time when I’m round Dan’s place, the kids scream at each other anyway 🙂

  8. I have owned this headset for a few months now and i can say that the sound quality is great, and so is the build quality. The problem with the headset being a little tight goes away after a few weeks of use and ends up being very comfortable. I bought these for $80 Australian which was quite cheap compared to the other headphones on offer.
If you are looking for a headset that performs well for a little cheaper the Gamescon 777 headset from plantronics are also very good for $65 Australian dollars.
