There are many reasons why you should shortlist the SteelSeries Spectrum 7XB. It combines impressive gaming performance with attractive aesthetics and good build quality. We think that the new ExactSND feature really enhances this headset as it lets the user adjust the sound balance to different styles of game, at the touch of a button.
The Spectrum 7XB is ideal for those who frequent LAN events as it is easily portable thanks to the ‘break apart' design. It would have been nice, however, if SteelSeries had included a carrying case for the headset to keep all the different parts together when in transit. The wireless receiver unit can be used with up to four 7XB headsets simultaneously which is a great option within a team based environment.
The only negative aspect of the Spectrum 7XB is the lack of a rechargeable battery. There are numerous cheaper headsets on the market with rechargeable batteries, so we can't see why SteelSeries didn't include one. Unless you want to be spending a substantial amount of money on AAA batteries, we would recommend that you get yourself some rechargeable ones to go with the headset. This obviously means extra cost.
As the SteelSeries Spectrum 7XB has only just been released, it isn't yet available to buy online. SteelSeries tell us that it will be hitting the market for about €150 which will translate into about £140-150 at the current exchange rate. We feel that this is a little pricey, especially considering the lack of an integrated rechargeable battery. It would be a much more attractive headset if they could reduce the pricing a little.
Pros:
- Lightweight design
- Quality materials
- Sound profiles
- LiveMix for Chat
Cons:
- No rechargeable battery
- Lack of carrying case
- Price
KitGuru says: An impressive headset, but no rechargeable battery and its expensive.
Looks fantastic IMO. lovely styling, very traditional.
That price however is insane. Can get an audiophile headset for that price, or close to it.
Great products. ive just ordered a mouse from them 🙂 expensive but quality
big steelseries fan here, recently been getting into Razer more. they seem to do a lot of crossover products for gamers. competitive battles are good for consumers.
Dont see Steelseries really being too concerned. I agree, this is about £30 too high in price IMO.
I have an ikari mouse and I love it. My only concern with steelseries is their pricing. It seems to be going up all the time. They aren’t Apple.
150 euros? thats as much as I paid for my console. ill aim lower, probably wont get something as good, but I cant justify this. looks good too. shame.
I dont mind paying more for steelseries. I own one of their headsets and it still looks new, even after 1 year of hard gaming all days. I do agree though ive been reading some of their reviews lately and I cant get my head around some of the pricing
