Mechanic crashes customers £220,000 Lamborghini

Sometimes a story is too painful to ignore and I noticed this one published in local newspapers in the United Kingdom this morning. A mechanic decided to take a customer's Lamborghini for a ride and ended up crashing the car into a parked Ford Focus, destroying both.

The mechanic, Andrew Mitchinson, 37 was driving the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 through a village and clipped a kerb. After the car went out of control he drove into a parked Ford Focus.

The prosecutor Peter Bardsley said that witnesses confirmed Mitchinson was driving at ‘excessive speeds' and said “Due to a combination of that speed, skidding on a manhole cover and a wet road, he lost control, left the road for 40 metres, came back on to it and hit the Ford.”

Car owner Stephen Leahy was paid £87,000 by the insurers for the car, which was classed as unrepairable. The owner of the Ford Focus got £7,500.

Mitchinson got a £280 fine and was ordered to pay £380 costs. Leahy wasn't too happy about the outcome saying the sentence was a ‘slap on the wrist'. Marianne Kitchen, the owner of the Ford Focus said “It is the best car I have ever had. I feel a ban would have been justified.”
