Bioware’s Greg Zeschuk defends EA

While EA Games might once again have been voted the worst company in America – if it had stood strong against Zynga, perhaps the latter would have taken that honour – not everyone agrees. Bioware co-founder Greg Zeschuk said in an interview that EA gives a surprising amount of freedom, “enough rope to hang yourself with.”

He said this while speaking with Games Industry and continued with: “It was really interesting because we really made all the choices we wanted to make ourselves; these are all things we wanted to try. And that’s something to remember – while we were independent we didn’t have quite the resources we had as part of EA, and then we got to EA and it was like ‘wow we can do all this stuff.’ We had to be really thoughtful about what we wanted to focus on.”

Zeschuk even went as far as to say that it's better under the umbrella of a giant corporation like EA, than being out in the independent wilderness, because you just don't have the resources: “Being independent I would say we had to be more conservative – being part of a big company, you could be more aggressive and try stuff. I think that’s something people [struggle with] when they join EA; they do too much or they do too little.”

KitGuru Says: While it seems a little hard to believe that EA would buy a company and not take even the smallest bit of creative control, it's nice to see someone standing up for EA. It's not the greatest company around, but it's far from the most hatable. What about Zynga, or Microsoft with its overly vocal employees?

  1. No You are completely correct EA isn’t the worst but they are bad…they rushed a game with so much potential to the point where the devs where forced to release an unfinished, beta game play style game just to meet the deadline set by EA.

At-least W_D was delayed….imagine what WatchDogs looked like last year when they announced it was being delayed? wow it must have looked and felt horrible…oh wait..

And the winner for all time worst Company (gaming) is IGG (I GOT GAMES) If you want a company that makes games so Pay to win (buy digital products that make you so overpowered its just impossible for non spenders to compete…IGG games are the best)

You could spend $50k and still not be able to fully complete and build your account to its full potential (Galaxy Online 2)

They release new content once a month and the only way to get it is to pay $90….they release 12 items for the different weapon classes…90×12 per month if you want to keep up at all…

Its literally the one game on earth that you need to be rich to play.
