While the upper echelons of the chassis market remain fairly stable, the rest of the market is in a state of turmoil. One area in which we expect to see a huge amount of innovation going forward is the Mini-ITX arena. Systems built into chassis that you barely notice. The problem is that, in the past, your wallet noticed too much. Silverstone believes it has a solution.
Small may or may not be better, but it certainly has the ability to be cuter and to draw far less power.
Traditionally, the problem with smaller systems has been ‘French Bistro Syndrome': The smaller and tastier the portions – the greater the price charged.
Introduced in 2009, Silverstone claims that the Sugo SG06 was a revolutionary product. Originally, this form factor was only expected to be used for low power computing and industrial applications.
Designed for use with Mini-DTX and Mini-ITX motherboards, the SG06 was capable of swallowing many standard components while keeping everything relatively cool.
For example, it was the first Mini-ITX case in its size class equipped with 120mm fan – and it was also the first capable of dealing with the full 10 inches of a modern graphics card.
These design breakthroughs allowed anyone to build a fast/affordable performance PC into a case that's smaller than most shoe boxes.
With SFX power supplies becoming more popular thanks to the success of SG06 and subsequent case designs, SilverStone has decided to release a version of SG06 called the SG06-Lite – supplied bare bones with no PSU cluttering up the price.
It's affordable and gives users much greater flexibility when it comes to choosing components.
Special Features:
• Ample space for CPU cooling (82mm in height)
• Elevated stand-off for motherboard back side components
• Powerful/quiet 120mm fan in mini casing for positive pressure cooling
• Support for both 2.5” and 3.5” hard drives
• Mini-DTX / Mini-ITX motherboard support with SFX PSU compatiblity
• Support for graphic cards up to 10 inches long
You can find further information about SG06-LITE over on the Silverstone web site, here.
The SG06-LITE landed into SilverStone's warehouse on Sunday 27th May and it's expected to be around £45 inc vat in the UK (possibly €49 in Europe).
KitGuru says: The Sugo series has pioneered some great innovations and now the SG06-Lite is looking to make the result of all that hard work available for less. Great concept, will be interesting to see it in the flesh.
