Galaxy S4 shipments pass 10 million

Samsung Electronics Co have said they have shipped more than 10 million units of the Galaxy S4 since the phone hit retail in April. The sales figures have surpassed those of previous Galaxy models.

Samsung said “Sales of the Galaxy S III reached the 10 million mark 50 days after its launch in 2012, while the Galaxy S II took five months and the Galaxy S seven months to reach the same milestone.”

Analysts have said that the current pace will be maintained until the third quarter, however it is not likely to increase further.

Apple sold 37.4 million iPhones in their fiscal first quarter.

The Wall Street Journal said “Maintaining the current pace of sales may be the best scenario for Samsung, analysts said, given the potential component supply shortages that may reemerge should demand for the Galaxy S4 accelerate.Kim Hyun-joon, vice president for Samsung’s mobile business, said in April the company has signed agreements with suppliers to secure key components for the Galaxy S4. 

The phone is available in more than 110 countries and the company plans to gradually sell to a total of 155 countries.

Samsung is planning to introduce more phone colors to meet various consumer tastes and preferences. The phone comes in white and black, and new models will be colored blue, red, purple and brown.”
