US ambassador asks Australians to stop pirating Game of Thrones

The US ambassador to Australia has posted up on his Facebook, about how he's the kind of man that likes to watch Game of Thrones with his family and legally too. Those dirty Australians though, they're pirating it and he thinks that should stop, because stealing is stealing guys; come on.

His post is titled “Stop the Game of Clones,” which is a clever play on words, get it? Game of Thrones, Game of Clones? See how it sounds the same?

Ambassador Bleich, began the post by suggesting that Game of Thrones was a fantastic show, filled with drama and intrigue, but that ultimately the piracy occurring was far more dramatic. Obviously a TorrentFreak reader, he plugged the site and said that with several million downloads of each GoT episode, HBO was being stolen from.

Salladhor Saan doesn't mind you pirating the show though.

“As the Ambassador here in Australia, it was especially troubling to find out that Australian fans were some of the worst offenders with among the highest piracy rates of Game of Thrones in the world,” wrote Ambassador Bleich. “While some people here used to claim that they used pirate sites only because of a delay in getting new episodes here, the show is now available from legitimate sources within hours of its broadcast in the United States.”

At the time of writing the post is still up if you want to read the whole thing. Thanks Kotaku.

KitGuru Says: I'm not 100 per cent on the way Australia handles HBO, but here in the UK if you want to watch it legally you have to buy a Sky package – which I refuse to do. HBO, add the latest episodes to Netflix and I'll be all over that. Or even just let me send you a tenner and give me full access the whole season.

Any Aussie KG readers want to let us in on why so many pirate in Australia? Is it still a pain to get legally?

  1. Why do we pirate it? I don’t watch it personally but it’s probably because it’s only available on Foxtel witch costs way too much for the content they provide.
