Sony Playstation 4 cheaper than Xbox One – and won’t need online connection

The Sony Playstation 4 will go on sale in Europe and America in time for the year end holiday season and it will cost $399, according to their E3 press briefing in Los Angeles. If you read our report last night you will already know this is $100 less expensive than the upcoming Xbox One.

The Playstation 4 is set to cost 349 pounds when it hits the UK, and 399 euros in the rest of Europe. Sony focused on some of their exclusive game titles in their presentation.

Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America said “There's no better way to show the strength of a platform than with the upcoming line up of games.”

On a positive note – the Playstation 4 will support used games and WON'T requre an internet connection to play them. Tretton got an applause from the audience when he explained this.

He added “If you enjoy single player offline, then you can do that and it won't stop working after 24 hours.”

Michael Lynton CEO of Sony Entertainment said “Sony is hard at work with a unique programming plan with content that will be available exclusively on PlayStation Network and PlayStation 4. Sony Pictures will do everything in our power to drive the success of PlayStation 4.”

Their presentation wasn't without problems however. They showed a demo of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag' and the game stuttered then froze. Sony ignored the problem, not commenting and continued with the rest of the presentation, without further problems.

Kitguru says: Which will sell better? Going on the price and the less restrictive nature of the platform, the Playstation 4 looks a firm favourite.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. 1st paragraph: $100 cheaper than the Xbox One not $100 more expensive. 🙂

  2. $100 more expensive than the upcoming Xbox One …i think you have a typo or rather you’re tired from E3 haha

  3. Something of note: The Xbox One is $499 only because it includes the Kinect sensor. The $399 price point of the PS4, Sony hasn’t stated one way or the other if it includes the Eye sensor, my guess is it doesn’t, which is why it’s $100 cheaper. All Microsoft has to do is put out a console only sku, and it too can hit a $399 price point.
