FujiFilm announce X-M1 mirrorless compact

FujiFilm announced their upcoming release of the X-M1. This is the third member of their popular X series and this model features the same sensor that was featured in the X-Pro 1 and X-E1.

It supports up to ISO25,600 sensitivity with Wi-Fi connectivity and the company have incorporated a tiltable LCD display. All of the controls are on the right side of the body for one handed operation. The camera weighs 330g and the battery life is rated at up to 350 frames per charge.

The high quality 16.3 megapixel APS-C X Trans CMOS sensor features in the camera with a colour filter in place to keep moire and false colour to a minimum. The removal of a low pass filter helps to increase resolution and image clarity. The EXR Processor II imaging engine ensures continuous shooting of 5.6 frames per second or for a burst of 30 frames in JPEG format or 10 frames with RAW/RAW+JPEG, or 3FPS for 50 frames in JPEG.

Fuji have listened to feedback and say the X-M1 can start to shoot pictures within 0.5 seconds from quick start. With it off completely it will take a full second to start up – which is still reasonably quick.

At the rear of the body is a 920,000 dot tilting LCD display. The X-M1 has two command dials for adjusting shutter speed, exposure compensation and aperture.

Video buffs will like the inclusion of full HD 1920×1080 support at 30 fps. There is a built in stereo microphone as well. Fuji have included 802.11b/g/n support to transfer images from the camera to smartphones and tablets, without the need for cables. They are offering a free download on a mobile iOS/Android application to help speed up the process.

The X-M1 is due to start shipping in July for $699.95 and there will be a lens option available as well, you can buy the camera and the Fujinon XC16-50mm (24-76mm) F3.5-5.6OIS zoom lens for $799.95.

Kitguru says: If it is anything like the X Pro 1 it will be a killer camera.

The launch of the new Intel Core Ultra 200S family of CPUs along with Z890 motherboards was a thorny process. KitGuru suffered along with pretty much every other review site on the planet and you may have noticed we held off from reviewing of the Core Ultra 9 285K, Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K as it is clear to us that Intel has some work to do before this platform is ready for action.
