LG develop 2560×1440 5.5 inch display

Screen technology is improving all the time and the latest development from LG looks set to target ultra high end smartphones in the coming years. They have detailed their ultra slim LTPS-based LCD display which they are calling Quad HD. It appears to be the highest resolution mobile display produced to date.

The Quad HD AH-IPS panel crams in four times as many pixels as a standard 720p display. The 5.5 inch screen has a native resolution of 2560×1440 at 538 pixels per inch (ppi). It only measures 1.2mm thick.

Current leaders such as the iPhone 5 screen, has a resolution of 1136×640 pixels at 325 ppi and the HTC One has a 1920×1080 panel with 468 ppi.

LG Display are also keen to point out that the new panel has stunning colour reproduction and contrast ratio, enhancing the playback of high definition movie media. No details on when the technology will be available to the public, but we are keen to see this in action.

Kitguru says: the future is looking bright in the mobile space.
