Microsoft still loves TV, giving US 360 owners 300 channels

If you thought Microsoft's about face on DRM, online connectivity and game lending meant that it had fallen out of love with TV (tv, tv, tv) you'd be sorely wrong, as it's looking to introduce US Xbox 360 owners to over 300 Time Warner channels. If they pay for it.

Unfortunately this will be a feature that's only available to American customers, so freeview users get that box of tissues ready, no extra channels at a premium price for you. How much will this be? $65 a year.

“TWC TV is a significant addition to Xbox 360, bringing our customers their favourite entertainment in one place-enhanced TV experience, games, movies, music, sports and entertainment apps,” said Blair Westlake, corporate vice president of media at Microsoft (via CVG).

“Our partnership with TWC enhances all that is available on Xbox 360 today, which will we continue expand. We're thrilled to offer TWC TV to US Xbox Live members and Time Warner Cable subscribers.”

Another Microsoft partner described it as a “new viewing experience.”

KitGuru Says: I really don't understand why Microsoft is so keen to have TV on the same box. Everyone has the ability to watch TV already and if they want to jump between Xbox and TV, they just change the video input on the TV… right? Am I missing something here?

  1. With the current sky app in the uk it means I can watch sky tv in my bedroom via my Xbox without having to pay for another sky box or for sky multi room. That’s an advantage in my eyes.

  2. Is just to distract gamers from the fact they have no decent exclusive games coming to the 360
