Now you can buy the Test Drive franchise for $1.5 million

Several big Atari properties went up for sale today, including some pretty historic ones like Rollercoaster Tycoon, Test Drive and Total Annihilation – only caveat is you'll need a fair chunk of change to be able to pick up the rights, as Atari is looking for over $20 million in order to keep itself afloat.

Atari has been looking for a buyout partner for a while now, as it's not looking financially solid – hence the asset sell off. To help make up at least a part of that much needed capital, Atari is pitching Rollercoaster Tycoon to the highest bidder, with a suggested price tag around $3.5 million. Similarly Test Drive is on sale for $1.5 million, while Total Annihilation is the cheapest of the bunch, at $250,000.

“The Debtors believe that this type of a targeted bidding process affords the Debtors the best opportunity to market the Assets and maximize the value thereof for the benefit of all stakeholders,” reads the Wall Street Journal (via GamesIndustry).

The auction for these classic gaming franchises will begin in July this year.

KitGuru Says: Always sad to see companies like this in trouble when they've been around for so long. Then again, when it happens, it can breathe new life into these old franchises, so hopefully it turns out for the best.
