Apple have filed a trademark application for the term ‘iWatch' in Japan. This basically confirms that Apple will be releasing a new ‘wearable' computing device in the near future.
Many companies have released a ‘smartwatch' this year with the big players such as Google, Samsung, Microsoft and Apple waiting in the wings to release their products.
According to the Patent office, the trademark was filed on June 3th. The Economic Times reported “The application is under examination process for approval, which in general takes some four to five months.”
Sony have showcased their latest Smartwatch last week which links into smartphones to receive alerts about emails, phone calls and updates from social networks. There is also music functionality.
Kitguru says: The interesting information comes from ABI Research who predict that 1.2 million smartwatches will be sold globally this year.
