3D printing technology is coming on leaps and bounds at the moment, but we're not quite at a stage where it can top the detail or cost effectiveness of injection molding. However when you're making some models, that doesn't matter, as the detail wasn't there in the first place. Take these paint-brush handed Final Fantasy VII characters for example.
While Final Fantasy VII's in-battle graphics were far superior to its worldly ones, it's the giant handed, blocky coloured versions that are most memorable, as despite the odd aesthetic, they told a story that has stuck with a lot of gamers for many years. Aeris' fate is one of gaming's most iconic scenes.
