Outlook 2013 comes to Windows RT

We reported yesterday that Microsoft are getting more aggressive with their Surface tablet pricing. Sales have not been as high as the company would like, so dropping the price seemed like a logical move to attract a wider audience.

Microsoft have stepped up, to address the lack of email client on Windows RT. Currently users of a Windows RT surface have had to make do with the dire Mail application, even though Office Home and Student Edition is installed out of the box.

Microsoft are updating the OS with a Windows RT 8.1 patch. The new software runs on the desktop, and isnt a new Windows 8 application such as OneNote. It looks familiar and instantly usable to a wide Microsoft audience. It supports IMAP and POP3 accounts and Exchange Active Sync accounts.

Obviously the RT version of the software has been optimised for Touch. The software has more space between the menu items as well meaning it is easier to select the items with your finger. You can use the program in mouse mode as well, if you have devices attached to the tablet.

You can set the ribbon to auto hide to get more space on screen, or if you want to see all the commands you can set the software to display the full set of Ribbon tabs and commands all the time.
