TCL announce $999 50 inch 4K TV

Ultra High Definition televisions seem to be the future of home entertainment, but concerns have been made that the pricing right now is still very high. TCL are aiming to join a handful of low price sets with their new 50 inch LED 4K TV which will be sold in America for $999.

The set comes with a resolution of 3840×2160 and it also has SRS TruSurroundHD onboard. It has a 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, not as good as leading models, but hopefully still impressive to the naked eye. TCL have incorporated a 120hz refresh rate, again not as good as the more expensive units but acceptable considering the low price point.

Connectivity seems decent, with four HDMI ports on board. This would cover a bluray player, media PC, cable box and console.

To keep the cost down, there are no smart TV features built in however if you have a Playstation 3 hooked in, you will already have access to Netflix, NOWTV, iPlayer and others. The company have included ‘Mobile High-Definition Link' which allows the end user to connect a smart phone or tablet to the set to display media content.

Kitguru says: The television will launch this September in America, but no news yet on other territories, or pricing. Even if it ended up a dollar to pound conversion in the UK, it would make for a good buy, we think.
