This year has seen the addition of many high capacity solid state drives, with prices continuing to be driven down. Samsung have announced that they are adding a new EVO line to their ever popular 840 SSD line up. The new 840 EVO models will be offered in capacities up to 1TB with write times up to three times faster than previous 840 models.
Samsung are trying to push more people into adopting a Solid State Drive with new 120GB, 250GB, 500GB, 750 GB and 1TB offerings.
Samsung are claiming that the 250GB 840 EVO can deliver a sequential write speed of 520 MB/s which is twice as fast as the previous model. The 120GB model can produce 410 MB/s sequential write speeds which is three times the performance of the 120GB 840 Series SSD. The high performance unit is the 1TB model, which is said to offer speeds up to 540MB/s read and 520 MB/s write.
Samsung also announced a new 2.5 inch NVMe SSD XS1715 which would be offered in storage capacities up to 1.6TB. This model is aimed at the high end enterprise storage market with sequential read speeds up to 3,000 MB/s. Samsung say this is 14 times faster than high end enterprise hard drives and six times faster than the last Samsung model to target this sector.
Kitguru says: EVO SSD's will be available as soon as August.
