We all mourn the passing of the huge number of high street gaming stores. Steam and the other online download engines provide an excellent service and there's no turning back the clock, but the high street stores provide a ‘finger on the pulse' which KitGuru loves. Here's a great example.
One of our roving reporters had their eye drawn by a big sign outside one of the remaining GAME stores to survive the high street cull.
It was advertising pre-orders for the XBox One.
Remembering the HUGE queues for the XBox 360 when it launch in the UK on 2nd December 2005, we wondered what the current state of affairs would be for the competing consoles.

Having photographed the offer, we then proceeded to quiz the management who revealed something rather unusual.
Bear in mind that the XBox One promises to be more expensive that the PS4 and to make sharing games awkward – while at the same time requiring constant web contact in order to work. Allegedly.
We were told that the XBox ONE pre-orders are outstripping the Sony PlayStation 4 at the rate of more than 2:1
KitGuru wonders how much Microsoft's ability to be known as the ‘console of choice' for games like Call of Duty might have player a part in Sony's (apparent) on-going inability to take control in this space.

KitGuru says: With the XBox 360, Microsoft managed to slaughter the PlayStation's amazing lead in the console market. At the same time, Nintendo moved the market in a completely different direction with the Wii. Microsoft managed to integrate Kinect into its line-up in a very effective way and now, ahead of the new launches, the people who failed so badly with Windows 8 might just pull a sales revenue rabbit out of the hat with the Xbox ONE. Maybe.

This may just be a case of the one store you went into. I’m quite friendly with the staff at my local game store and this weekend they told me that PS4 is outselling Xbone at a rate of 3:1, and they have had a ton of preorders apparently.
We’ve hit multiple Game stores and their story is that the Xbox ONE is doing really well. We’re wondering if it is down to the games that are most likely to sell through that chain.
In support for Chris – I’m from Australia and preordered a PS4 yesterday. I asked at EBGames as to the ratio and was told that in the store I was in, PS4 was selling at a little more than 2 for every 1 XBox, and the manager was aware that there were stores selling as high as 5 for 1, and the lowest in the region was 1.3 to 1.
If Game are marketing as they appear to be in the picture, they seem to be saying “PS4 coming soon” and “XBone available for preorder”. It could be as simple as the marketing.
Failed badly with windows 8? It’s a digital thing, they developed and released it, spent a lot on advertising and got a lot of cash. Even though it’s a fail for many people, ms doesn’t mind that
