Users of the Redtube streaming porn site – who number in their millions at this point, since Redtube is one of the world's most popular websites – can continue browsing without worry now, as the site's owners have secured an injunction against the copyright troll that recently found a way of blackmailing people that had visited the site and viewed material that was supposedly copyright protected.

This all started near the start of December, when upwards of 10,000 visitors to the site were sent demands for financial compensation, since – it claimed – those people had illegally viewed copyright protected videos on Retube. While you could argue that even if that was the case, it's not the visitors' fault that that content is on there, the real scandal is how exactly the law firm, U & C, working on behalf of Swiss firm The Archive AG, got the names and addresses of site visitors in the first place. Redtube assures users that it didn't give out the information, suggesting that it could have been a data stealing banner advert or perhaps some malware. We still don't know.

However, we can at least move on, as Redtube has secured an injunction against the law firm responsible and they can now no longer send out threatening communications to visitors of the site.

“This decision is a victory not only for the users of Redtube, but for every person who visits streaming websites,” said Alex Taylor, vice president of RedTube (via TorrentFreak). “It is a clear message that the use of personal information and invasions of privacy for purely financial interests will not be tolerated.”
