Apple may launch USB-C AirPods case alongside USB-C iPhone

Due to EU regulations forcing smartphone makers to stick to a universal charging standard, Apple is set to unveil the first USB-C iPhone this year, finally doing away with the Lightning port. The iPhone may not be the only Apple device moving to USB-C though.

For years, the iPad Pro has utilised USB-C for charging and MacBooks also use USB-C nowadays. The only outliers in Apple's line-up are the iPhone and the AirPods charging case, but that should change for both products in just a matter of weeks.

According to Bloomberg's sources, Apple is not only updating the iPhone to USB-C but will also update the AirPods Pro charging case with USB-C as well. If true, this means that after years of fragmentation, Apple device owners can finally be able to use one cable across all their devices.

Android users will have been using USB-C for years already and at this point, most devices use the port for charging, making alternatives like micro USB rare.

Apple is set to hold its annual iPhone launch event on the 12th of September.

KitGuru Says: As someone who has juggled an iPad and an iPhone for the past five years, I'm very much looking forward to being able to move away from Lightning. Everything else I own uses USB-C now, so the move makes perfect sense.
