Lies of P is the latest Souls-like to capture the hearts of fans, letting you play as the famous Pinocchio in a cruel, dark Belle Époque world. Following the release of a demo back in June, the game’s director spoke on how fan feedback was helping to make the in-development title better. Now, with just a few weeks left until launch, these many improvements have been detailed.
Speaking to Eurogamer during Gamescom 2023, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi addressed many of the changes which have been made since the release of the demo, making sure to speak on the improvements to the game’s dodging mechanic – saying “When we switched the dodging part, we made it smooth and flexible when you dodge. Also when you change to another movement or action, we made it shorter and smoother to make it easier to switch.”
Another somewhat unique system in Lies of P is its weapon durability. Following the demo and much fan feedback, this too has been altered, with Choi explaining “We had some feedback that [durability] is hard to adapt to. We had to adjust it a little bit. Overall [feedback] was about getting used to the combat system, that was the main part we have changed.”
Choi spoke on many other aspects of the game’s design including comparisons to FromSoftware’s own output. That said, the director did stress that “we cannot list every little thing we have changed after the demo version, but of course we took everything thoroughly into account to make it better.”
It will be interesting to see all the many big and small alterations made when Lies of P releases on the 19th of September.
