For the past few years Call of Duty has followed the footsteps of many other live service titles when it comes to crossing over with other franchises, brands and even real-life people. The latest addition to the ever-growing roster of skins will see the Tomb Raider herself Lara Croft join the battlefield as a new operator.
Making the announcement on their blog, the Call of Duty team detailed all the upcoming changes set to arrive with the launch of Season 5 Reloaded. The full list of additions can be found HERE, however one of the more interesting announcements is the fact that the iconic video game character Lara Croft is set to join as a new operator on the 9th of September – with the team saying:
“Lara Croft arrives as a Store Bundle Operator in Season 05 Reloaded! Experience the legendary adventurer, famous archeologist, and ultimate expert in the fields of archery, dual pistols, and other small-arms combat.”
The operator pack will of course include Lara Croft herself (though appearing closer to her classic design) alongside three weapon blueprints: the Ice Axe melee weapon, Mythic Defender SMG and “her signature ‘Mach-5’ dual pistols based on the new sidearm coming with the Reloaded update.”
Other various additions include a finishing move using the aforementioned pistols as well as a vehicle skin; loading screen; sticker and emblem.
We have not seen Lara Croft in a proper Tomb Raider game ever since the conclusion of the rebooted trilogy which ended back in 2018. As such, the choice to go for Lara’s more classic look is interesting indeed and may hint at what is planned for the future of the franchise.
Considering the fact that Call of Duty has added the likes of Snoop Dogg, 21 Savage and Nicki Minaj into the game as operators, Lara Croft is a surprisingly fitting inclusion since she is actually known for using guns. It will be curious to see how many more crossovers Call of Duty currently has planned.
