‘The Day Before’ seemingly being rebranded following legal issues

The Day Before was a much-anticipated open-world survival MMO “set in a deadly, post-pandemic America overrun by flesh-hungry infected and survivors killing each other for food, weapons, and cars”. Unfortunately, with each new development update, the title is looking more and more like vapourware. The game’s most recent setback was due to trademark disputes surrounding its name. Following this, The Day Before is seemingly set to get a rebrand.

As reported by Zach Jackson via the Australian publication ‘Well-Played’ the team behind The Day Before have filed a new trademark to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the name DAYWORLD.

Of course, while this could possibly be referring to a different project entirely, the use of the word ‘day’ alongside the ongoing legal disputes heavily suggests that at the very least Dayworld will be a back-up option for the survival MMO should the current name be unusable.

As noted by Jackson, Dayworld is the title of a trilogy of books by Philip José Farmer first published back in 1985. While there are currently no trademarks related to the series, it is possible that Fntastic could find themselves in another legal battle should Penguin Group catch wind of this.

We will have to wait and see, but with The Day Before (or whatever it ends up being called) still set to launch on the 10th of November, an official announcement of a name change should come sooner rather than later.
