Analyst claims Apple will ship 63m iWatches in 2014

Wang Wanli, analyst with CIMB Securities Limited was interviewed by the Commercial Times. He claimed that Apple will be releasing their iWatch next year and that annual shipments will reach 63.4 million in the first year after launch.

Wanli said that Quanta Computer will split iWatch orders with Inventec on a 60:40 basis. Recommended retail price should be around $199. Apple have not yet confirmed they are even bringing a high tech watch to market. They have however filed an application to register ‘iWatch' as a trademark in Japan.

In May, CEO Tim Cook spoke at the AllThingsD conference to say that he wasn't ruling out the possibility of Apple releasing a wearable product. He said “It's an area that's ripe for exploration, it's ripe for us to get excited about. Lots of companies will play in this space.”

The Apple smartwatch is said to operate on its own, or via a connection to the user's smartphone – relaying important information such as incoming emails, texts and phonecalls.

Meanwhile, the race is on to dominate this market, with players such as Samsung, Google and Microsoft aiming to release similar devices.
