Paul Butler from AOC demos 29 inch widescreen at Multiplay i49

Gamers can never really have enough real estate. At Multiplay i49, AOC's Paul Butler took a few minutes out from demonstrating his company's range of screens alongside Team Infused, to show us the most special product on display.

Any gamer of a certain age will have owned a 17″ VisionMaster Pro at some point in their lives.

At the point where Iiyama pwned the pixel presentation market, it was being run by Paul Butler. These days, he is driving the rapidly growing AOC corporation and his company had pride of place at Multiplay i49 – their stand is right at the entrance to the main gaming hall.

A quick glance around and your eyes settle on the 29″ q2963Pm.

Paul smiles as he explains that this is one of the most advanced monitors on the market and they have been selling like hotcakes at the event.

The 29″ WLED/IPS screen delivers a whopping 2560×1080 resolution with a refresh rate around 5ms.

For gaming, the appeal of a bigger screen is obvious – alongside a price point close to £330.

If you're into films, then you'll find that the ratio here is a lot closer to cinema specifications and if you do the maths for something like Hollywood 70mm films, you'll find it's around 2.2:1 – which is where 2560×1080 lands.

Lastly, if you're a designer/producer/photographer and you don't want to buy two screens (or don't have the space for them on your main desk), then this resolution could be a godsend as you allocate yourself a pair of 1280×1080 spaces.

The 2560x1080 screen of the AOC q2963Pm is pretty impressive, when you consider it's only around £330
The 2560×1080 screen of the AOC q2963Pm is pretty impressive, when you consider it's only around £330. This product has certainly put a smile on Paul Butler's face – and Team Infused seemed pretty chuffed to be using it.
