Here’s how to avoid the incoming Cameron porn filters

Despite the western world being quick to jump on human rights violations and infringements on freedom of speech in eastern nations, British leaders do seem incredibly keen to restrict what we can look at online. One of Prime Minister David Cameron's recent tirades has been against child pornography and on the side, porn as a whole. Announcing it last week, he expects internet service providers to offer free porn blocking services to customers (which most of them already do), asking all current customers if they want the filters enabled or not. If a response is not received, the filters will be enabled by default.

Of course to anyone that hears a warning bell when someone tries to block anything online, this didn't sit well. Fortunately though, before these filters even left the starting gates, we have a very simple method of circumventing them.

This isn't particularly surprising of course, since this is exactly what happened with the blocks of The Pirate Bay and other torrent search sites. Each time one was blocked, hundreds of proxie sites appeared. While some of those have now been blocked too, this new method allows you to circumvent all court ordered blocks with ease.

It's called Immunicity and it unblocks both pornography, torrent sites and their proxies too. It's not just for UK users though, anyone can benefit from this unblocking service and it's free, infinitely improving its value to consumers.

The current list of sites – which is constantly being added to – that are unblocked by Immunicity, can be viewed in full here.

“We are angered by the censorship that is happening in the UK and in other countries across the globe, so we got our thinking caps on and decided to do something about it,” Immunicity’s creator said while speaking with TorrentFreak.

“We saw that there was a gap in the market for anti-censorship services. VPNs are great but they often require a subscription, Tor is great too but it’s very slow and getting it running just to browse a few torrent sites can be cumbersome. Immunicity is different because it is free and implemented in such a way that the end result is seamless access to previously blocked content.”

When asked about the upcoming (though as yet to be dated) porn filters David Cameron has been so keen to talk about, the creators said they planned to counter it by unblocking as many affected sites as possible.

“With Cameron’s upcoming porn ‘opt-in’ filter, we intend to include many of the web’s porn sites in our offering. The end result will be seamless access to pornography that would typically be blocked under his plans. When these sites are added, users will not have to update their configuration or do anything else, they can simply start browsing like they did before,” Immunicity said.

There will also be several different options for users. There will be pre-set configurations, that allow them to switch “on” all torrent sites, or all pornographic sites at will.

Kitguru Says: This highlights once again how out of touch politicians are and how keen they are to be seen to be doing something, instead of actually making credible and sustainable change. Website blocks do not work. This has been proven over and over and yet once again, the government wants to implement more of them. In this instance, it's designed to pander to lazy parenting and unfortunately, those people will probably be happy with the idea.

  1. If I use immunicity, then I can’t use ‘media hint’ which allows me to view videos that aren’t allowed in my country. Way of getting around this?

  2. I think Cameron is most likely been told about the fact that people will circumnavigate any filters he tries to implement, but I don’t think that blocking porn is his reason for doing so, but to give the look of a ‘family man’ with moral values, and to pander to the old Tories who are in a mood at him over gay marriage. When it becomes evident that people are getting around it-he will claim that it is not his fault and say there will always be people who seek to undo and get around and law enforcement, and claim ‘he tried’ but say that the vast majority of regular joes who this is aimed at (hormone filled teenage boys- i.e me) will not know how to get around this. Then we (and the old Tories whom the whole effort was for,) will feel sorry for him and re-elect him for ‘trying’. Its just a political front., nothing more.

  3. Great read.
I wish there was a way we could get articles like this in the newspapers so the uninformed parents and “morally correct” citizens of the Uk could better understand the situation.
