Kim Dotcom set to launch NZ political party

Megaupload and MEGA founder, Kim Dotcom, has announced his intention to launch a new political party that will contest elections next year in New Zealand, with plans to improve the country's IT infrastructure, internet access and download allowances.

The party is set to begin operation on the 20th January, 2014, on the two year anniversary of Kim Dotcom's arrest at his mansion home. It's also one day before his 40th birthday.

The announcement came from what Dotcom describes in a tongue in-cheek fashion as a “whistleblower,” also suggesting that the plans for the party were in the early stages of development.

I'd still vote for the Governator over Dotcom though…

However, speaking with TorrentFreak, Dotcom denied that he would be competing to become Prime Minister.

“I’m not a citizen of New Zealand and therefore I can’t be elected into Parliament myself but I can be the president of a new party,” Dotcom explained. Though he did say he was currently in the early stages of meeting potential candidates for Prime Minister.

On top of this, he announced some of his party's policies via Twitter: “After the 2014 election I will get New Zealanders a new submarine cable, fair Internet pricing & no more data caps.”

Current NZ Prime Minister John Key commented on the news, suggesting that it should be called the “No Hope Party.”
