Sony have announced their latest SmartWatch 2, which is billed as the first NFC watch which is resistant to water.
The SmartWatch 2 is created to work with Android smartphones as an extension of the existing screen. It can serve as a notification device meaning a smartphone can be kept inside a pocket. There are applications available to handle calls and to take photographs. The watch also has integration with Twitter and Facebook. Sony say that their product has more dedicated software applications than any other available on the market today.
The screen is 1.6 inches with a resolution of 220×176 pixels. The company claim good readability in direct sunlight.
The watch is waterproof, meaning you won't need to worry if you get caught in a heavy rain shower on the move. It also has NFC connectivity meaning you can connect to an NFC capable Android device quickly.
Pricing information is not yet available, although Sony say it will be made available later this month. It certainly looks quite capable although the jury is still out on whether smartwatches are hot in demand.
