Nissan have joined the latest rage for wearable technology and are releasing a new smartwatch for drivers of their Nismo cars. The ‘Nismo Concept Watch' will be the first smartwatch to connect drivers to their cars, according to the company.
The smartwatch will allow the driver to monitor the efficiency of their car along with readings such as fuel consumption and average speed. The smartwatch can also capture biometric data via a heart rate monitor and can connect to the cars on board computer system via a dedicated smartphone application.
Gareth Dunsmore, marketing communications general manager at Nissan in Europe said “Wearable technology is fast becoming the next big thing and we want to take advantage of this innovative technology to make our Nismo Brand more accessible. On track, Nissan uses the latest biometric training technologies to improve the performance of our Nissan Nismo Athletes and it is this technology we want to bring to our fans to enhance their driving experience and Nismo ownership.”
The company will be releasing the smartwatch in three different colours – white, black and a black/red combination. The interface is controlled by two buttons and has a snap fit locking mechanism.
The smartwatch has a lithium ion battery inside which can be powered by micro US. The company rate battery life at around seven days under normal use.
