gStick: pen shaped mouse hits Kickstarter

The traditional computer mouse has been used now for as long as we can all remember. Sure, many companies have tweaked and modernised the design, but basically it is the same as it was 20 years ago.

Some radical designs have emerged over the years to help deal with carpal tunnel and RSI. The new gStick is designed to mimic a pen, shaped and sculpted to match.

Gordon Alan Stewart of Anchorage, Alaska created the gStick after he tried to sign a contract online using a traditional mouse and realised how difficult it can be with the tried and tested form factor. Three years later and he is using KickStarter to bring the gStick to market.

The gStick has not been designed to completely replace a traditional mouse, but instead for those people who use applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Video Editing and 3D rendering has been mentioned, along with PC gamers, which seems unusual to us.

The mouse is designed for comfort and be intuitive while offering precise control. It is suitable for both left and right handed people and will fit easily into a pocket.

The gStick is wireless and will work with Windows, OSx and Linux operating systems. It has a maximum sensitivity of 1,200 dpi. The gStick has a ceramic ball in the tip, with a removable end to ensure it is easy to clean. It also has a scroll wheel which can be used with a finger or thumb. There is a button on either side of the wheel. The creator says that a single AAA battery will power the gStick for three to five months. [yframe url='https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdH1TDCo6CE']

Stewart had hoped to raise $40,000 to get it funded, but achieved the goal within only 24 hours, so there is clearly a demand for this kind of product. The final product should be better looking, with a more polished finish than the prototype.

The retail price will be $69, but KickStarter backers can get the gStick for between $25 and $50. You can visit, read and then support the project over here.

  1. I have something almost identical to this at home. It’s called a “Logic 3” and is a pen shaped PS2 slot device which has a ball tip at the end of it.
It isn’t completely revolutionary, but I like that it’s wireless.

  2. This guy has scammed money from his kickstarter backers while selling the same product on other sites. Maybe do some research about this guy before posting about his non-existent item and look at how he has sold the same product on multiple sites making tons of money all the while getting writers like you to support him so he can scam more.
